...but I guess it's not required reading. However if nothing else it demonstrates early on how events mutate into urban legends.

Welcome back to Crestview, one of Atlanta's top-tier private schools. Regular's feral offspring, many generations removed, terrotize the campus and a familiar (no pun intended) figure is educating a new generation of students. The once-parochial school is still in the battleground of a strange popularity war.
This is hard for me to review because I really struggled with "Bliss" and didn't realize the the books were connected. To have one of my least favorite characters ever pop up in the first 3rd of of this book made me want to put it down.
This is an "okay" read - perfect for those who want something a little creepy without it being too heavy.

Rhymes with Witches Lauren Myracle Books Reviews

This is a really great book for girls. It has an exciting plot and is about a freshman in high school and there is a group called the Bitches, they are the most popular people in school everyone likes them and everyone wants to be like them. Jane is invisible no one notices her and she desperatley wants to be part of the Bitches, and unexpectedly they invite her to be one of them. Alicia and Rae tell her they're bad news but she doesn't listen, she becomes popular, but she finds out mysterious secrets about the Bitches.

It's kind of sad you could say the way she becomes invisible at the end and how Alicia and her aren't friends anymore but Jane learns a lot in the end and isn't sad about her life, she learns to live life to it's fullest, and to face each day with courage and determination
Jane has always been kind of boring. But now, as a freshman, she sees her chance for greatness. At her high school, the ruling clique of girls, aptly named the Bitches, consists of one girl from each class. They aren't the prettiest, or the smartest, but they are super-popular, and nothing happens without their approval. If Jane were to become a Bitch, her life in high school would be set. So naturally, she's ecstatic when she is chosen. After a "trial" party, the Bitches officially ask her to join their ranks. Of course, Jane agrees. But several things about the Bitches disturb her. First off is the way they become popular. Jane suspects that it's not all kosher, and she's right. But how can she go against her new friends? The Bitches are It at her school, and now that she knows their secrets, she doesn't want to go from someone to no one over night. She wants to stand up to them, but she's too weak, and too scared of their power-- literally. This book rings a Mean Girls bell with a dark and sinister twist. The Bitches are far more intimidating than they first seem, and the reader will have no choice to finish it immediately to find out how it all ends. The ending is a bit rushed, but it works to add to the chaotic nature. Jane is a loveable character about whom the reader will be worried from the start. One piece of advice You don't want to leave this half-finished before going to sleep.
I really hate to give one star reviews, in fact if you look at my reviews you will see that I tend to be a little more liberal with my reviews. I figure that the author worked hard to put out a story and I respect that. I also hate to give one star reviews to books that I have read all the way through, especially ones that were quick reads, but this one I just could not give more than one star to. Okay, I'm not a high school kid, I'm a senior citizen but I love YA books, and my local library has awesome book sales. I picked this up along with 30 other books for a total of $4.00. My major problems with this book are 1. Not everyone wants to be in the "in crowd", not everyone is a sheep and wants to be popular. I was a "Camille" when I was in high school, a true nothing, and I was bullied by males and females alike. Yes, it did mess up my life, but I would NEVER EVER want to be like them. I really hated the insinuation that EVERYONE wants to be part of it, and the author stresses that if someone says they don't want to be they are lying. 2. There are feral cats everywhere. NOT ONE PERSON, no one in the whole school cares about them. 3. Dead kittens, dead cats, oh yeah, no big deal here. A momma kitty has her throat slit and her kittens are surviving on the blood. A dead kitten on a teachers desk, no surprise, no OMG, no nothing. As an animal lover I find this just beyond disgusting. If I had a daughter I would discourage her from reading this...just awful.
Awesome!
Came in excellent shape. I can’t wait to get into this.
Some of the events in this novel reminded me of the other teen books I've read lately, and some reminded me of episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Jane has teh perfect name and situation to be the next girl in the sites of "The Bitches." She seems to want popularity as much as the other girls at her school. What's different about Jane is that she has too much of a mind of her own to accept the conditions of being a Bitch. These bouts with Jane's consciousness are the best parts of this book. Jane has insight into the other Bitches and life in general that guide her through this experience, and at times seem a little unrealistic for a fourteen year old, though not impossible.

Myracle blends in the elements with Jane's dad, Jane's best friend, and Jane's relationship with "the boy next door" which all greatly add to the tale. I especially liked the use of all of Dad's gifts to get into Lurl's office after hours. A little hokey, but also cool.

I wanted more resolution about the feral cats. They were everywhere and they divided each of the reading sections. I was waiting to read that each time Lurl performed an act of magic, a new cat was born...but for me it was never resolved.
